J. WARREN SMITH

J. Warren Smith signed the Register on September 11, 1927 at 9:45AM. He and his passenger, journalist Walter Chambers, were eastbound from the Ryan factory in San Diego, CA to Pittsburgh, PA. They flew NC2054, which is listed in the Register as a Ryan B-2 Brougham. It is fairly clear that this was a brand new airplane being flown home from the Ryan factory.

From the advertisement, below, from the December, 1928 issue of Popular Aviation, we learn that Smith was a well-known Pennsylvania aviator. The Travel Air company thought his testimony was relevant and important to their products.

Note mention, above, of the Ball Air Mail lines. Clifford Ball was a signer of the Pitcairn Field Register. Please refer to the left sidebar for another image of Smith. Please follow the link to Ball to explore
