EBERHARDT S-E-5-E

Registration Number NC3166

Smile for the Camera

This aircraft is an Eberhardt S-E-5-E, S/N 23943. It is an example where very little information is available. The Eberhardt Manufacturing Company, Buffalo, NY, manufactured it in 1923. It had a Hispano-Suiza model A engine installed. Its license was applied for on 10/10/1927 and approved by wire on 10/21/1927.

Robert O. Snoddy, 130 Emerald St., San Antonio, TX, purchased it from the Baren Airplane Co. Mr. Snoddy held A&E license #2786.

The airplane arrived at Davis-Monthan Airfield on 11/5/1927, just three weeks after it was registered. Mr. Snoddy probably owned the airplane at this time, because its home base was identified as San Antonio. The pilot, however was E.O. Helton. Mr. Helton arrived from Stinson Field (San Antonio) at 1:00 PM and departed for Clover Field in Santa Monica at 2:00 PM.

It was reported sold in April, 1930 to the Caddo Corporation, 804 Taft Bldg., Hollywood, CA and “washed out completely in motion picture work.” Its license was cancelled 4/25/1930.
